Birthday meltdown

So today is my birthday and we are on holiday. My 8 year autistic daughter has been coping so well and we planned to go out as a family to buy a few things for my birthday and celebrate. Unfortunately it all got a bit much when she desperately wanted some very expensive slippers that we said we couldn’t afford and this caused a meltdown. I guess because it was my birthday I got the brunt of it this time and she said some pretty hurtful things. Now we are back at the house and she’s had time to calm down she has come and said sorry which is really good of her I know. I am pretty sure I’ve said all of the right things like I love her no matter what and she is now completely fine playing on her iPad. However, me, my husband and my youngest daughter of 6 are not really fine. We are left stuck in the house with ringing in our ears from being shouted at.

I don’t really have a point to this post other than feeling a little bit sorry for myself I guess because my birthday has been ruined! I guess I just needed to vent to people who understand. Thanks for reading.

  • just dropped in to say you are not alone!!.  My 8 year old has meltdowns every day and i feel crazy at times.!! i am on my own with her so i get the full blast of the meltdown and it stays with me all day sometimes its easy for others to say forget it. i havent found a way to 'get over it' yet,and suffer from stress.
