Hello,
My son is 5 years old. His autism is not severe although there's no verbal communication. He was sleeping in his bed in the same room for a long time, there's been no recent changes in the environment. A couple of weeks ago he started to take his duvet and pillow into the wardrobe. I thought he's playing (he's also got the difficulty falling asleep at night time & I usually let him play till he's exhausted to sleep). I did not allow him to do it for real. Until recently when - for some reason - he resisted to sleep in the bed. To such extent, that if I don't let him go sleep in the wardrobe and make him sleep in his bed (he'll be upset but eventually give up) later on he'll wake up in the middle of the night and move to the wardrobe to sleep there. it's been 4 nights now! I don't know what to do. It's not about the light cause the curtains are thick and there is a night light that he can manage by himself (some nights he likes it on, some nights off). I think it's something about the small closed space where he feels safe - ? Even if so, I just can't allow him to sleep in the wardrobe (even that there's good ventilation and relatively big space, it's just something I can't imagine as being comfortable for a child). Please give me some advice... I don't want him to sleep there, but if it makes him feel safe then it's a wrong thing to prevent it...
