my 6 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with ASD. Although I was never expecting a diagnosis to magically change things, I am at a loss as to what the best next steps would be to support her/ us a family. I have been referred to one of these autism parent workshops/ support group but have been told there's a year's waiting list. We are on a waiting list for CHAMS too at the moment. I've been told I can apply for disability benefit but as I understand you need a lot of 'supporting evidence' however she isn't under any professional care/having an specialist intervention, to be able to get any such evidence. Ultimately I do feel she should be getting more support not because of her diagnosis but because of the difficulties she has. sensory issues, behavioural issues, meltdowns/emotional regulation, anxiety, rigidity etc... Should I request a social care assessment? what has worked for others. please share anything that could be of help. Thank you
