My little boy who has HFA and a full statement, is in mainstream school in reception year.

This school has the best reputation for SEN in our area, is over-subscribed and we would not have got in without a statement. I fought for one before he went to school for this purpose. 

I've had the most horrible experience there - they are essentially segregating him [with the excuse that he needs a quiet space] from the classroom and his peers. He is a bright boy, other children are drawn to him and social interaction issues are much diminished]

All along, I have expressed disquiet and been worried about his learning - that he will get behind if he is not in class. I have no support at home as his Father has AS too and is incapable of supporting me. He has not been able to see the implications. And just to give you a taster of how exclusive this school is - they tried to exclude my child from the school nativity play. I objected and they included him - he was as good as gold and they then denied they had ever said any such thing.

Now, what I have been concerned about since he started [oh and he wasn't allowed to start in sept., he had to wait until oct half-term] has happened. Of course, he is behind his peers as he is never in class.

We know he can learn, he learns very readily. Really do not know where to turn. He is out of that school that is for sure BUT the SEN is a consultant for our area. OMG! This is a nightmare as I now no longer trust her as far as I could throw her. She has lied to me and is SOOOOO evasive when you ask direct questions.

My lovely, challenging, bright boy is being failed by this school and I am going crazy not knowing what to do. I have also involved Parent Partnership and had a complete nightmare with their representative too.

Please help me if you can. I am desperate!

  • What is it you want out of the situation, what is your will and your kids will... list it out then ask will you get it ?

    It seems to me that you have been successful in the past wishing your will,, so please do not implode now.

    I'll start the list.

    1.) no segregating, (bare in mind you may have rejection issues).

    2.) Support at Home, via father or support worker.

    3.) Inclusion in school general social activities.

    4.) Report on lag with education with peers and method to bridge the gap.

    5.) More/same time in class as other children.

    6.) Change of consultant due to trust issues.

    7.) Change of parent partnership liaison contact.

    8.) etc

    Hope this helps,, go for it,, one at a time, write to them, speak to them,, squeek the wheel until it gets the oil, bearing in mind that the world really wishes to ignore problems when there is no risk to them, so annoy the beep out of the principle so that his/her position is at risk, via education board, papers, mps etc... it is the only way some these beeps react when it becomes an ISSUE FOR THEM ALSO. Sad you have got to fight just for some basic requirements, but the reality most of the institutions think they are untouchable due to inner connection with each other. Show them a mothers wrath.
