We are in the process of applying for a statement for our dd9 - they have agreed to assess her and the process has begun. I'm aware that she still may not get a statement but if she does get one I'll have 15 days to name the school. So here's the issue - she's had a bad time in y4 & that's with a teacher who's tried her best to do the right thing (though she doesn't really 'get it'!). The next two years are going to be even harder with much less understanding teachers. We are already thinking about secondary school and considering that special school may be the way to go as she suffers so much with anxiety and really don't think she'll cope in the 9-form entry school which is our local one. So we are now thinking that this may be the time to name the special school we want her to end up at and just make the move sooner. Is this feasible? Or would any potential statement be geared up to the mainstream school she is currently attending? To complicate matters more, we don't even know if the special school is the right place for her yet as we can't get a date to look round until end of June and the final decision date on the statement is 1st July! We are sure it will be great though, from hearing of its reputation and looking at the website, etc, just can't confirm it until we've looked round! Has anyone done this themselves - changed school at the time the statement was issued? Will she automatically stay there then for secondary?
