autism & makaton courses and qualifications

I am looking to complete some courses and training with a certificate or acknowledgement on completion.

My son is 7 and is non verbal autistic im looking to have greater understanding of his needs and better communication with him when he visits me.

Any help advice or general pointing in the right direction would be most appreciated

    Have you tried your sons school. I have an 11 yr old with asd and work in a special needs school.  We uae makaton daily with the kids and I use it at home. The school can help you with the basics or if possible you can volunteer at the school.

  • Hi - I think colleges do courses such as sign language etc so it might be a gd idea to ring them or check out the prospectus.  There'll be lots of info on loads of things via the nas home page which may be helpful to you.  Also never underestimate the knowledge of any others who know your son well.  They will be a mine of info, but I'm sure you know that already!  Gd luck.
