Parent feeling isolated

Hi,

My daughter is a teenager and home schooled, because she really cannot cope in school…she did really try, but it nearly caused her to have a breakdown. She did not ‘qualify’ for a specialist place etc, and she also suffers from chronic anxiety and has always found it difficult to socialise. She has one home schooled friend, she sees very regularly and finds it very very difficult to meet up with other home educated and home schooled peers in groups. This has obviously left me very isolated, my husband works, and we both come from small families, of which are not nearby, so we do not see them.  We moved away also a couple of years ago, so our close friend is not nearby either.
Are there any other parents in the same position, or recommendations for parents forums to chat? I am also finding it difficult looking for a local parent group in my area, Surrey/West Sussex.

Thank you

  • Hi,

I home school and have a teen with ASD and dyspraxia. Yes I do feel alone, Im a single parent. The only thing that I can recommend is open spaces when meeting other Home Educated teens. Try smaller groups .. I didnt think my teen would  take to any sort of socialisation but he did his own thing .. We are doing a HE meet up , a camera will be going with us .. Whether or not my son will be anxious, stressed? I dont know, but in the open Gardens we can go alone or leave earlier .. I always try to get him to try and explain everything before hand ... Hope this helps .. I joined Facebook local groups and have got to know some parents who have ASD children too so its nice not to feel the only one -x-
