Advice for my 5 year old son

Hi All! I really hope someone can offer me some advice as we've tried everything we can think of!

Our son is 5 and autistic with echlalia, so he has speech issues too - whilst he goes to the bathroom without an issue, he has started to play with the toilet water!

mostly when it is empty, but he's school said he is now doing it after he goes - he is putting toys in the toilet and lifting them out. We have tried explaining that the toilet is 'dirty' an then shown him the 'clean' water from the sink and bath, but it doesnt seem to sink in

This might not seem like an issue, and I know it is unhygienic and disgusting, the teachers in his unit have told us this, but we just want to help him understand

Any help and advice is so very much appreciated! I dont want to shout at him too much as he is a really good kid ... most of the time! :-)

    what would I do,.. I’m not you! But I would escort my kid to the toilet and have my arms crossed. Speak with a “head masters” attitude. Talking about how much I love that naughty step..

    I have 3 6 7 7 9yr olds. 3 is autistic and a 7 is adhd.

    this will not work just for the toilet problem, I guess I’ve been doing it since day 1 with the 9yr old.

    Hi Stephen! Wow! You have a busy house!!! We monitor him in there, so he is more controlled at home, its at school that we're having the problem. He is supposed to have someone with him all day (he likes to escape!) but they say this is not part of their responsibility and we need to 'make' him understand ... I'll add here, he is changing units come september! But I will give the stern voice and naughty step another go xx
