Autism or something else??!!

Hello,

My two year old currently on a wait list to see paediatrician and speech and language therapist since November last year however I’m doubting if there’s something more. We don’t really talk or even try to copy people, we say maybe 4 words constantly although we have said others they don’t stick. Hands rotating in circles especially when we get excited or concentrating, although we have started to head butt things especially when we are told. No or to stop doing something.

My big concern for her is nothing seems to be getting better just worse. I imagine lots of you have been in the same position, it’s quite a scary place to be and not a lot of help it seems.

Can anyone share there story or what helps why you are waiting for answers?

  • Hi, i went through something similar with my now 7yo. The head banging can be scary, as can alot of things you experience for the first time. The rotating with hands sounds like stimming! The best thing you can do while you wait - its a long wait - is educate yourself on all things autism. No two people with autism are the same of course but getting stuck in all the courses and leaflets really shines a light in the darkest times. Get as much support as you can and share your journey with close friends or family - even internet strangers. It all helps make you feel a little less alien. Feel free to message me - i am new on here but im finding my way around - any questions you may have im glad to help if i can. All the best to you, youre doing great.

  • hi. my child was slow speaking, and only started talking more when in pre school [age 3].

Does your child make any eye contact? ort look at your mouth, when you are speaking?.   I just used the same book and repeated, and some progress was made,
