Covid Vaccination

My daughter, 15, needs her covid vaccination done in March. It will be her first one. We tried it months ago but it resulted in a meltdown. We tried dimming the lights, deep pressure, being in her own room but nothing helped her so we gave up. She wants it done but her anxiety and fear towards needles is through the roof.

This time, people are coming to the school and I have given permission and the heads up that she may refuse and they said they will do their best to help. She has had a negative experience around needles and willingly hasn't had one put in her for years. She's missed all her other jabs aswell. What helps you around needles?  Any advice is grateful. I need to pass it on to the school.

  • Does she have a favourite toy or stuffed bear that she could hold when she's having the jab? I have a special bear which I always take with me for jabs and blood tests, bit embarrassing but it helps me so I'm not bothered with what others think.

And would you be allowed to go to the school when it's time for the jab? Having you there with her might help her be more at ease and relaxed
