EHCP.. help needed please

My child was diagnosed with ASD and developmental delays nearly a year ago. School have suggested to request for an EHCP assessment. But I have no clue what I am doing and I don't want to mess up a chance to get my child an assessment.

Can anyone please offer any advice or any tips which could help when filling the request form?

Thank you x

  • Hiya - we're in this process at the moment, it can be such a minefield! And I've had to learn a lot in the process. Definitely go for it - you can apply as a parent, and if school are supportive that's a great help. IPSEA have lots of advise and support packs for all the various stages, and they help explain the law: https://www.ipsea.org.uk/pages/category/education-health-and-care-plans

There is also a good Facebook group where the admins have a lot of experience and you can read through other posts to get info about the process: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1156148524409786

Good luck! It can take a while, but I hope you get a positive outcome!

  • I would highly recommend contacting SOS!SEN who are an excellent independent charity specialising  in helping parents  throughout the whole process of obtaining an EHCP.  They helped me a great deal with my child’s EHCP and will be able to help you too.  Their website with helpline, advice centres, lots of information all clearly written, draft sample letters etc is  https://sossen.org.uk/

Also your local council should have what’s called a ‘Local Offer’ on their website which should give you details of the EHCP process, what is available locally for all special needs children ie clubs, etc and the details of your local advice organisation which can also advise and draft letters  for you  Hope you get an EHCP without too much difficulties
