Idea for reluctant toothbrushers

E has to have orthodontic work soon but must have ultra clean teeth first. He isn’t reluctant to clean his teeth but is not very thorough and I can only supervise evening brushing as I leave for work while he is still eating breakfast.
The dentist suggested disclosing tablets for practising getting all areas clean and it’s turned toothbrushing into a great science experiment! From a sensory point of view they’re ok and he loves the ghoulish purple “fake blood” effect Slight smile

Thought I’d share in case it helps any reluctant toothbrushers with getting into it as it helps to show the importance of good brushing.

  • Yes, I did this with both of my sons when they were younger.  I thought I was installing habits for life.  But in spite of this, and of regular visits to the dentist and hygienist thoughout childhood, things have lapsed very badly in the case of our younger son.  So for me the question would be how to support change in an adult and why the lapse in hygiene (which is sadly not just limited to teeth) has occurred.  I suspect it's linked to burnout but have no idea what to do.
