My 10yo daughter was diagnosed in October with a PDA profile of autism. We had it done privately at great expense because we didn’t want to wait several years which we were told was the waiting list for referrals. School hadn’t really picked it up as she masks so well at school.
now we have the diagnosis we’re struggling to know what to do next. She doesn’t have an EHCP but school have offered some support - preparing for transition to secondary school, extra help with creative writing, some life skills work e.g. catching the bus. But we need more help and advise in dealing with her sensory issues and executive functions.
we’ve gone back to the professionals who diagnosed her but as they’re a little distance away, they have recommended just a couple of sessions - one 2 hour session to work with her to understand and accept the diagnosis and one with us to offer advice on how to support her, and then a training session with the school to advise them on how best to support her. About 6 hours work in total. But they charge £190 per hour, so over £1000 worth of support, without even starting to do anything practical.
I was wondering if anyone else has been in this position and where you went to get help as next steps?
thanks
