Educational psychologist

Hello All who come by this post, my daughter was diagnosed ASD last year and I was on the understanding that shwould being referred to the educational psychologist only this has yet to happen.

i queried this with school and was informed that my daughter will be supported via speech and language and the asd advisory teacher (this teacher comes in termly).

i am unsure what an educational psychologist is actually for and what they would be able to tell me and if this is beneficial for my daughter to be seen by one, I have however raised my concerns with the school as I am unhappy about the situation, my daughter is not a priority to them which I do understand there are other children with needs also and the senco has to decide who is out first difficult job, as a parent my daughter is my priority.

can anyone give me any information on this please and would it be worth paying for a private educational psychologist assessment to be done only they won't be able to assess my daughter in school.

so confusing

happy chocolate day for yesterday

  • Hi thanks for getting back to me, my daughter is 7years old and her IEP I do not feel is correct now that I have gained some knowledge of these things, also she is on school action plus yet still struggles, she is better off in small groups or with one to one teaching yet the school seem to disagree with this as my daughter tends to conform in school yet is extremely anxious whilst there (tell tale sign of this is how sore her fingers are), her behaviour is brilliant at school however she transfers her anger onto me after a bad day in school, she is very sensitive to anyone calling her names and will break down crying.

she gets very confused in class where she is if copying from the board, ahead no friends, all of this is so heartbreaking as I'd like to believe my daughter is safe and happy in school yet I don't feel she is.

i was under the impression my daughter was to be seen last year by the EP however she went to CAMHS first then I was informed there was no EP clinic, I did go into a bit of shock when my daughter was first diagnosed due to the fact I had no idea she had ASD always believed her hearing problems were at the bottom of everything (she had two operations for grommets and still has loss of hearing in one ear).

i don't know that much about ASD, and haven't got much support.

i love my daughter she is my world :-).
