Young child attending nursery.

Hi again,

Has anyone had their young child( around 2) with autism start nursery and if so how did they get on? My child is an extremely picky eater and so only eats a small selection of things like sausage rolls. I know most nursery’s have a chef and they make lots of food like curry and pasta which my son wouldn’t eat. Would it be a case of the nursery providing the food that suits or would you need to send the food in?

How did your child settle in nursery?

I’d also be keen to find out if anyone has had their child diagnosed and then been entitled to nursery funding from the age of 2 due to parents struggling and needing support?

Thanks for any advice

  • My daughter (not diagnosed but now showing signs of ADHD) had a packed lunch every day at nursery with exactly the same thing in. Apart from Christmas dinner day she’d happily eat that but not want a roast at home unless there’s minimal veg and no gravy. Now she’s at school she chooses jacket potato and beans everyday unless it’s fish and chip day! (Or pizza day as long as there isn’t anything green on it!) My nephew(diagnosed with autism around 3)  would only eat chicken nuggets at home but he would eat anything the nursery provided for hot dinners so it might depend on the child

  • Thanks for your reply. I suppose it does depend on the child. He’ll hopefully get on ok once he gets there!
