ALL NEW TO THIS

Hi I'm Crisa and have two beautyful boys, Iestyn who is 3 and Cai who is 10 1/2 months old.

Iestyn has had his assesment for autism and are due to get his diagnosis on the 20th of May.Iestyn has very limited speech, limited eye contact,is so independant I'm just his to tool if needed,he's a compulsive chewer of anything(oral fixation), loves to run in tight circles for a very long time, bounces and makes droning noises wen tires and excited. He's funny, has an amazing laugh and cheeky smile He's my baby.

It all just feels a little scary.I know Iestyn is fine and healthy but it feels as if we are getting ready to mourn him  to an extent,Iestyn's life isn't going to be what we thought and we need to deal with that and move on.

He is trult fantastic but can be really hard to watch him sometimes, he gets stuck in his own world and knobody can get him back til he's ready. Iestyn has little speech and what he has we are not sure he understands, Iestyn parrots which is encouraging, he can speak to a degree.

I'm scared of what his life will be and that others will make it harder for him,I  just want him to be happy and one day have 'friends' so he's not alone always.

sorry that I'm babling think I just need an outlet x

  • Hi Crisa
It is perfectly natural to be feeling a little scared and it's great to see your positive attitude.
As well as the message boards NAS offers, the parent to parent service may be of use. The service is provided by trained parent volunteers across the UK who are parents themselves of a child on the autism spectrum and have a wealth of experience, knowledge and insight and can talk through any worries, problems or feelings you are experiencing.

alternatively, there is also the Autism helpline which offers impartial, confidential information, advice and support:
