Autism report

We’ve seen a draft of the report of my daughters Assessment for Autism. It shows her strengths and weaknesses. We have a few bits to amend. Should we also request that is somehow highlights how she cannot function without direction/support/prompting from either me or her partner? I’m referring to basic things, like washing and eating etc. She needs constant reminding, and couldn’t cope without support. She will never live alone. She is high functioning.

We will be attending a final meeting with her Psychologist to discuss the findings.

Other diagnoses she received at the same time are ADD and Dyspraxia.

Parents
  • Do you mean low functioning? Yes you should request any changes that you think need to be made in order to represent her better. I obviously don't know your daughter, but she might surprise you and learn to do some of those things better when she gets more specialist support as a result of the assessment.

  • She’s high functioning.

She can do everything, but due to lack of focus and problems with time, she forgets the basics. She doesn’t register being hungry for example, until the end of the day when she feels unwell and gets a headache. She does need to learn ‘executive skills’ too.
we are hoping she can trial medication for the ADD which will enable her to think and focus better.
