Taking son to Autism Assessment - What to say?

Hello, I am new on this Forum.

I wanted some advice please, my son is attending his Autism Assessment this week and I don't know what to say to him about going for the Assessment? I have not discussed this with my son until we receive the diagnosis from the Assessment

Any tips or advice would be greatfully appreciated..I know that trying to get him to the assessment will cause a massive melt down so I need to pick my words very carefully as to where we are going and why?

Thanking you in advance!

  • It might be appropriate to name the condition being assessed, but to also to point out the many prominent and successful people who are autistic, such as Sir Anthony Hopkins, and the many in the historical past believed to have shown evidence of autism, like Einstein, Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin. This may help reduce any negative feelings should the assessment give rise to a diagnosis. I started my education being selectively mute, and ended it with a science PhD, being autistic is not an unsuperable barrier to success.
