So my son is 16 only recently had asd assessment have been waiting 4 years for it but we think its a foregone conclusion at this point.

before covid he was out of school with an eta programme through hospital school which mainly consisted of 1 on 1 teaching or very small groups as he found mainstream school too difficult.

he then started finding eta too difficult then lockdown hit and things got increasingly more difficult. Suffice to say it means he has no gcse at all. 
so thinking of what to do come september is difficult, he is still not in a place to be attending school or college setting they want him to attend a course 3 days a week to get his essential skills but he hasnt left the house without me in years now and honestly i dont think he would be able to 

wondering if anyone has had an similar difficulties and what they have done?

    It is a very good idea to hire a tutor for your child. Tutors help children develop and become smarter. It was always difficult for me to solve math problems during school time. I liked studying humanities at school, so I had bad grades in the exact sciences. I often did not learn the material the teacher gave us, which also caused problems and difficulties. In 7th grade, I started taking additional classes in math and chemistry. My goal was to learn the school stuff and get good grades on tests and quizzes. My parents found the best tutoring school I attended twice a week. My results in math and chemistry became much better. Sometimes extra help is essential to get a good result, especially if you have special educational needs.
