My son shows signs of being on spectrum ADVICE

Hi I’m new to all this my little boy is 4 and since he was about 2 people have pointed out different things saying they could be related to autism .

I have been really struggling with how hyper he is he never stops now I’m not talking a stereotypical child behaviour his is excessive. He is never tired.

he can tell you all the names of every dinosaur and what they eat and how they hunt their pray.

he will tell you every car make and does very often just sit with his cars and tells himself what they are.

He struggles really hard with change even a little change such as going to nursery ( before he finished) at a different time, he needed a routine book so he could talk himself through the day and routine.

he hasn’t got any problem with eye contact or interaction if anything he will talk to anyone about absolutely anything, He struggles a lot with concentration and sitting still to have a story or to focus on a puzzle for example.

so if your still with me Thankyou! And I would really appreciate peoples advice insight on what to do next.

GP appointment?

wait for school in September?

im a very concerned mummy that maybe I am making things worse with the way I handle situations which in turn would make it harder for him to understand

thanks guys sorry it’s a long one Rolling eyes

  • It sounds like he's incredibly intelligent! I know several individuals like this, both ADHD, now much older, very successful - one a professor, entrepreneur and philosopher (doctorate at Harvard) the other a music producer. He sounds like he's ready to just soak in anything and take on the world. I wouldn't hold him back, but he may learn much better interacting - a more kinetic approach. He may need a trampoline and a jumprope and other things he can stay active on.

Definitley get assessed. Both ADHD and Autism are on the Spectrum. It would be good to make sure he's allowed to learn and grow the way his physiology is best suited for.

  • Thankyou so much for the information it’s very helpful, he has a trampoline and climbing frame and we usually go out on his bike for a couple of hours a day and nothing stops him we can leave the house at 8Am for a day out (peppy pig word or similar) returning home late evening and he’s still bouncing off the walls….

I appreciate the advice to get assessed is that a GP step to take?
