Anxiety with my daughter

My daughter's anxiety has been really bad for the last 18 months. Since Covid things have become increasingly difficult for her such as going to school, brushing hair, leaving the house,  talking to people and having a shower. The list is endless and I'm mentally drained by it all as her behaviour has become quite difficult to manage as she has regular melt downs.

I asked for counselling back in March but as she was having emotional literacy in school, but  i was told at the moment this was difficult to access. I think she needs to see a child psychologist to help her with her various issues. Her school have been extremely lapse with the plan, do and review process and despite the specialist recommending an EHCP back in January, nothing has been done. The autism adviser is involved but I am not impressed how little has been implemented with regards to strategies and interventions at her school.  I really don't know what to do, shall i pay to get some sessions with a child psychologist as this may help? She is totally withdrawn and very unhappy, and it makes me feel very sad.

My daughter has a diagnosis of autism and is aged 10 years old.

  • Hello. Sorry to hear you are going through this. I have an 8 year old son who is on the waiting list for asd/adhd assessment so we don’t have a diagnosis. Recently he has really been struggling with anxiety and emotions. Even if he gets a diagnosis I’m still not sure what support he’d get if any.

We have decided to take matters into our own hands and have signed him up for private counselling. I used the Counselling Directory and filtered it down to find someone suitable for counselling autistic children. We have found someone local. He hasn’t seen her yet but I’m hoping it helps.
