Toys

Hi can anyone recommend some good toys for 7 year old autistic boy he is sensitive to noise. I want something to distract when having melt down to help him relax. Any ideas appreciated

  • You can buy light projectors that project stars in different colours, Lava/bubble lamps or just any pretty lights in a darker room I've always found a good way to help during a meltdown. Also a weighted blanket? Something fluffy or something else that feels distinctive? Just some things that have helped with mine. All the best :)

  • It would help if you bought educational toys for your child. When choosing toys, it is essential to remember that the primary purpose of activities and games with special children is socialization. A good option would be group toys: constructors, building blocks, children's railroads, puzzles, bingo. It is important to be with the child together and not leave them alone. Children need to be aware of the communication process. Sensory toys develop motor skills, visual perception, tactile senses, hearing, thinking and communication skills. You can also buy wooden toys. They are much better than plastic ones and develop a child's motor and thinking skills. If you are interested in the benefits of wooden toys, see this.

  • Just wondering, if you haven't already, can you buy ear defenders if he's sensitive to noise. They are great to block out any background noise, especially going through meltdowns. My daughter has a box of fidget stuff to turn to, but she's 15. You could buy him toys related to his favourite things and interest and distract him with that. Don't know if these will work but it's from my past experience. I get all my things from Amazon so maybe take a look on there, if you don't already. Good luck
