Applied Behavioural Analysis-therapist needed!

I think that it never gained the traction in the UK that it did and still does in the US. The main objection to it is that it 'normalises behaviour' from a neurotypical viewpoint by repressing the autistic behaviours (that help to self-regulate) of the child. That is, that it is helpful for parents and other people in contact with an autistic child, by making the child's behaviour appear more 'normal', but at the cost of traumatising the child. ABA has been characterised as being less about education and more about 'conditioning'.

One observation by a mother of a child who had been through ABA might be illustrative. She said that when encountering a new child her child would say "Hello, what's your name?", but would not tend to remain to hear any reply. The child had been conditioned to say the words, but remained uninterested in the name of the new child and uninterested in further interaction.

Nope, I'm a real parent--just trying to get some help for my son, This was something recommended to me but just having a hard time finding.

please don’t get one, many children suffer ptsd from this therapy later in life and it’s extremely damaging :)

Sorry if I'm way off the mark - but as you don't even mention 'your area',  I feel that this is a veiled advert for the website you mentioned.

 You might not find much help in locating an ABA therapist here, as ABA is quite a controversial 'therapy', particularly among autistic adults.
