Recommendations for effective supportive living options in North East of England

My 25 year old daughter, who is autistic and has a number of mental health issues, has spent the last ten years, in and out of hospital whilst moving around different supported living provisions in our local area (we live near Durham).  She is unable to settle anywhere and nowhere appears to be able to meet her needs.

Her latest placement has just fallen down over the weekend, as they were unable to stop her from absconding and placing herself in danger, whilst in a heightened mental state.  The main problem seems to be that staff don't seem to have the training to understand my daughter and her needs, they will communicate incorrectly, give her too many choices, overwhelm her with support when she needs space and vice versa.

Things are looking very, very bleak, she is suicidal and doesn't see any point in carrying on as she doesn't feel there is a life for her.  She can at times be aggressive and violent, but these are ways of her communicating her sheer desperation.

I'm at a complete loss as to what to do for the best.  Local social services are of very little help.

Does anyone have any recommendations for support or accommodation in England (preferably the North East, but things are desperate) that may be able to help?

  • Have you looked at Brothers of Charity group.
They offer various support placements.  I have a friend who has a brother in one of these placements and she recommends them highly.  I am looking for supported living for my son too but as we are a long way from the places they offer I am not sure we can pursue this but we may just do this anyway
