Do I have to keep my autistic son in a mainstream school

My son has been struggling in a mainstream secondary school for two years, I’m waiting for a place in a special needs school, but he is refusing to go back to the mainstream school so I have to send him in while I wait for a place at a special needs school

  • You can homeschool him. It's a parents responsibility to ensure a child receives an education, in school *or otherwise*. You don't have to follow the national curriculum either, he just needs to receive an education that meets his needs. I'd remove him from school until he gets a place at a SEN school, if it was me.

  • yeah no one learns anything in high school. the teachers cannot control classes and let the class riot. and i member one class myself where our teacher himself just read his own book and told the class to pretend they are doing work if another teacher comes in. high schools are very bad on teaching probably due to how classes cycle and you get different room and teacher and they are only there for wage. if it was done like primary school where you had 1 room and 1 constant teacher it probably would be able to teach and progress. high schools the way they are have a complete inability to teach anyone or even control the class to be able to do anything. they are a waste of time.

primary schools though they did right, well at least when i was in one, they might have even ruined those by now too lol
