my 12 year old son was born very prematurely and had lots of problems but he has outgrown most of them but has dyspraxia and a few speech problems and he has quite a few problems socially, he has recently been diagnosed by CAMHs with ASD following an ADOS.
My son started at high school last September and has had big problems settling in mainly with the other children and a couple of teachers, some lessons he is doing ok in and others he is doing badly.
Help from the SENCO has been quite patchy until now, CAMHs have advised we go for statementing to help him and we are now under our local outreach department to work with the school to work out what my son needs.
We have a meeting this week with the school and an outreach school that will be helping us with the statementing process and I want to be as clued up as possible and want to get a few things and ideas down as to what we think our son needs and what the school should be doing for instance - his handwriting is poor and we have asked on a few occasions about using a keyboard/ notepad etc for his written work and they gave him an alphaspart ancient keyboard to try and he only used it for one day a few months back so I want to persue this as it would take a lot of pressure off his work and speed up the time taken to complete his work.
Could anyone give me an idea as to what happens at these initial meeting and what I should or could be asking.
Any help would br greatfully received
J
