My Son is 3 and obsessed with lifts, Everywhere we go the trip revolves around them and it’s all he talks about in detail on repeat. If he can’t go in them all the time when out he has screaming meltdowns and gets no enjoyment from the trip even if something like soft play. He has suspected Fragile X, and ASD.
Any tips to help engage him in other activities or interests?
thank you
Hi NAS73649,Individuals on the spectrum can often display behaviour that may be challenging. There will generally be a reason for this and it is important to try and understand the trigger for the behaviour when developing strategies. You can access our behaviours page here - https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/behaviour - which has its own section on meltdowns.
You may also be interested in seeking some professional support regarding the behaviour. You can search for professionals in your area we are aware of on the Autism Services Directory: www.autism.org.uk/directory.aspxBest wishes,Kevin Mod
