My daughter is 12 years old in year 8.She has learning dissibilities ,she can not read or wright on her own,she does attend mainstream school.I know she is not ready to choose her subjects or do her exams,i do not know what to do.There is a parent evening at her school to help parents support their kids on what subjects they should choose but how does that help my daughter i feel like that meeting is not intended for us i feel very helpless and a bit stressed,i do not want my daughter to be invisible.any one been in same situation.

I am the same as your daughter in that I do not fit anywhere. I am older than her (17) but I am still stuck. Obviouly I do not have as much needs as your daughter, I can read and type (not write though) But, I have been through GCSE's.

I would also question the school she is in. From my experiences you need to get her into a more specialist school-and fast! From myself the older you are the harder it is.  Their is a section about education and chosing the right school here. www.autism.org.uk/.../choosing-school-in-england-wales.aspx I think it would be good for you to look at that and other pages within that section.

But generally I think if you imagine your daugter is able to sit GCSE's and do well then she could stay where she is now. But if as you seem to say you think she would not manage GCSE's, then she should go somewhere with special facilities so she can do a more appropiate qualification.
