Any one had tried ABA with Child Autism UK?

My son, 3 years and 7 months, is showing strong signs of autism. He is on a waiting list for assessment with the NHS. We want to go for ABA therapy. Any one had tried ABA with Child Autism UK (www.childautism.org.uk/) Can anyone recommend an independent therapist that covers West Yorkshire?

Many thanks

  • Why ABA? Why not speech therapy or occupational therapy to work on communication supports (eg. AAC) or understanding autistic neurology?

Autism isn't a behavioral condition and the sensory, motor and neurological differences of autistic kids are actively ignored in Applied Behavioural Analysis. Autistic people do not recommended it.

Many nonspeaking autistic people have experienced ABA and have given their feedback which you can read here:

Check out Aucademy, I-ASC and AUsome Training for more information:

  • I'm certainly no expert in ABA but from the information and videos I've seen it looks like brutalising the child to mask like crazy and generally be terrified to show autistic tendencies.

    Just my opinion.

  • ABA is worthy of critical observation, if you're going to turn to ABA ask whether what they choose to do can hurt your son, because of masking autistc people are over 10 times more likely than the general population to die by suicide.

Eye contact therapy for example, some autistc people don't make eye contact because it causes them anxiety, if you know anyone with social anxiety you may be able to recall they'll only keep eye contact for a limited time.

Question all therapies seeing if they are actually helpful.
