I am reading a fantastic book on autism

Good afternoon,

I have not posted for a while as my husband and I are still waiting for our son's report and I felt I had nothing to share until now.

I am reading a beautiful book called Autism: how to raise a happy autistic child. My son is not formally diagnosed yet but I believe I need to educate myself as much as I can to be the parent he deserves. My husband is reading it too.

I do not know if this is allowed but I would like to suggest this book to other parents with autistic children.

Also, I would like to thank every each of you for your  support. I want you to know I appreciate it greatly. You make me understand more and more everyday. Thank you.

Have a good day!

  • Thanks for the recommendation. As the mum of a recently diagnosed 9yr old I have been finding there is a huge amount of information out there and a massive difference in the needs of children with ASD. My son was diagnosed specifically with Asperger's or as I think it may now be classed, ASD level 1. I have started reading the "Complete Guide to Asperger's" which someone else on this forum recommended (and helpfully included a link to :-) ) and I am finding it so useful. Do you think this book would be helpful for the parent of a child diagnosed as level 1? I feel there is so much I need to read up about, I don't want to read more than I need to if that makes sense? I've seen loads of books on Amazon that all look really good too!

  • Keep in mind that The Complete Guide to Asperger's is very outdated and much of it has been disproven and improved upon in recent years. If something doesn't sound right, go with your gut.

I'd recommend "Sincerely, Your Autistic Child." Very powerful book full of wisdom

  • Hello,

You are very welcome. I do believe this book is for anyone interested in knowing more about autism. It has been written with the precious help of autistic professionals and it gives you a better idea of how, for example, they experienced their childhood and life in general through their differences. I am still reading it but I am finding it very helpful.

The author of the book is Jessie Hewitson. Try google it and see what you think. :-)
