New diagnosis

Hello, your post interests me as my 9yr old son has just been disagnosed with ASD and the doctor said in the old days it would have been described as Aspergers. I feel a bit like "what next" myself. The school recommended the referral so I have let them know the disgnosis but they appear to be doing a bit for him already at school, so not sure anything will change from that perspective. I'm keen to chat with other parents of children with mild ASD as all the info I've found so far seems to cater more for those whose ASD needs more support. Sorry I can't advise you, but  I will be reading the replies to your post.

Answering the other poster's questions based on my son, my son has taken his diagnosis in hs stride, one of his good friends at school was diagnosed 4.5 yrs ago, (interesting, my son was assessed at the same time and they didn't think he showed sufficient signs then) so my son is cool with it and the doctor stressed the positive sides of his condition, him being bright and good at maths and spellings etc. I asked my son what he thought the school could do to help him further, but he couldn't think of anything. He does complain that he doesn't enjpoy school though, I think he finds the lessons too slow and repetitive, not challenging enough, but equally he doesn't focus or listen well, so he struggles to apply himself quite a bit. I'm thinking about secondary choices for him and worrying about choosing the right school - has your daughter got on okay at school?
