Help please

Hiya. My 7 year old son was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD approximately 18 months ago. It’s been a very rough journey full of battles to get the diagnosis.

Since the diagnosis we worked hard together and things have improved so much I think we have learnt so much and how to cope.

recently my son who is only seven says he can’t cope and he’s going to throw himself of our high balcony, he was having a major meltdown episode at the time but I am very worried.

Two months ago I was offered and declined medication I thought he and us were managing okay.

what do I do?  Nothing?  Ring his consultant or my GP?  I just don’t know what to do. Your kind comments would be very much appreciated.

  • Im sorry to hear of your stress, I can absolutely feel your nightmare, my son will occasionally self harm when he is having a meltdown. He punches himself in the head or scratch himself. He also has ADHD/ASD. After a while of avoiding medication we decided to put him on it as I wanted to do anything to help him regulate. The medication definitely helps, he is calmer, less fidgety, and more 'normal' We are far from perfect and he still does have meltdowns but I'm sure these would be more frequent and more sever if he wasn't on the medication. Hope this helps. I would contact your paediatrician direct rather than the GP.
