Advice

Good evening

I am contacting you as I’m desperate now.

I have a 9 year old girl who has struggled most of her life, lack of support from the school resulted in me going private (starjumpz Nov 2020) where she was diagnosed with ASD and ADHD among other things.

Now the school filled out their paper work and this was noted In the assessment that their scores confirmed these diagnosis.

I’m still struggling we had Camhs involvement (as they wouldn’t pick us up to start with due to school not having any concerns) they had my daughter in for their QB test which she couldn’t complete due to being to hyper so they wanted a classroom observation done.

This was done and they said ADD.

We still haven’t been seen by the NHS for an ADOS test.

I have been in contact with a SALT myself as school kept saying no issues, but it turns out they never did a language link on her only when I told them I was getting an assessment done did they do something which came back sever issues.

The therapist we saw virtually picked up on the issues right away but after speaking to school we are now having another classroom observation.

my daughter self harms and has done this at school as well, a risk assessment was placed but still 5 further incidents happened in the school setting which all went un noticed

She has visual and auditory hallucinations.

I’m sick of sending along info stating girls and masking and I understand she may be presenting different in school but it’s all getting to much now especially when professionals have seen her behaviours.

This same school completely failed my first daughter and even wrote on her additional needs plan that she would go under the radar in a school setting and she did even after they said it.

Shes struggled and is struggling so much.

Like i mentioned I have gone private and got the diagnosis but there is still so much going on and I did want to find out if you guys could help in anyway with advice ect.

Even if I have to pay myself for a full classroom observation just to get somewhere as it’s not fair on my child to constantly be battling and putting her through assessments.

Appreciate any advice you can give me.

  • When it comes to Autistic people suffering, hurting themselves or others, there's usually something or someone in the environment overwhelming her.

You've mentioned her going hyper, hypersensitivity occurs when the individual is overstimulated, they may be too many stimulants in the environment.

Take a look back but instead of looking at incidents separately look at all the incidents and meltdowns you can recall. Write where she was, what was happening and when it happened. Once you've done so, see if there's any common factors or patterns. These incidents sound like reactions.

It could also be something emotional, if she's got any hidden emotions she's holding in, that could be hurting her that she would rather physically hurt herself.
