Help, ran out of ideas

Hiya I have 2 children on the spectrum but in the last year or so my eldest who is 13 keeps eating his clothing, he has put holes in the necks off almost all his tops and when I buy new ones they barely last the day, I have tried chewys for him but he doesn’t like them, I have tried V neck shirts so they wouldn’t be irritating around his neck or as easy to chew but that didn’t work, he does it to jumpers and his school tie aswell. Has anyone got any ideas how I can try to stop this? It costs a lot of money to be constantly replacing clothes!!!!!!

  • Can you just buy a reem of cotton and send him off everyday with a strip of it? You could get exotic and order samples of natural cottons, linens, canvas, hemp, wools, nautral undyed silk even which might have a bit of protein (who knows) - a small collexion of natural un-dyed fibres and see which he prefers. Go with it. Follow the 'fetish' as it were and see if he eventually graduates to flatbreads or those teething biscuits that take forever for babies to wear down.

I'd suggest indulging your self to see if you can identify with him, see if there's something to it? I used to buy my son chewing gum in bulk, but he was chewing on plastics and rubbers.

To add: if he's just just chewing on the fabric not actually ingesting it, it might not be too traumatic. I suggested chewing on it yourself to see if you can get a feel for the sensation and make/find closely related food items.
