Advice - my daughter may have autism/adhd

hello, this is my first post on this site, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My 4 year old daughter, who we believe may have autism or adhd is becoming increasingly more volatile and aggressive. Daily we have struggles controlling her anger issues that are sometimes due to her simply not getting her own way...is this a temper tantrum or is she having a meltdown. This morning at 6am the controllers on the Nintendo switch were not charged which then resulted in her having a meltdown which has lasted 2 hours. During this time she has thrown things around the house, broken things and hit, bit and punched myself and my husband. We are really struggling and would like advice of how to deal with her and her struggles. I have spoken to my GP and health visitor but as you can imagine with covid at the moment things are taking longer than expected.

Any help or advice would be appreciated

Thank you

Stephen

  • I am so glad I have found this chat! Reading all of these are like reading about my 6 year old daughter. We are really struggling at the moment, especially with the schools having gone back. The chopping and changing of the rules have had a huge effect on her. Having spoken to child psychology, I have been told it is at least a 2 year wait for an assessment. I don't know where else to turn.

  • Hi

Although my daughter is younger and at nursery at the moment it too has impacted her not being at school and having routine so I completely understand the struggle.

I have been in contact today with child development services who have informed me that there is a 2 year waiting time...frustrating when you have been waiting with no support so far. They did send me some links for other support networks and services, these are within my area so may not be of use to you but it may be worth asking if there are any services you can access that can help you in the meantime.
