Are there any groups out there where kids on the spectrum can meet other kids?

Hi everyone,

My 12 year old son has Asperger's and lives with his mum in Poole in Dorset, I live near Batterea in London. The round journey to collect him and take him back is around six hours (so twelve hours of travelling every time I have him) so I only have him seven times a year; a week every half term plus Xmas and Easter, and a further two weeks over the summer, one week at the start and another at the end.

Obviously during covid our options for places to go to have been limited to walks around Battersea Park but normally we go for days out to places of interest or anywhere that I think might fascinate, impress or inspire him. Are there any groups that organise meet ups as it'd be nice if he had the opportunity to meet other kids with similar intense interests. He loves gaming (naturally); animals; Comicon; tech; the Marvel universe; action, Sci-Fi and comedy movies.

If he doesn't really take to anything at least he'll have had the opportunity to try something different.

Any advice or info would be really helpful.

Many thanks

  • Hi Pikl, thank you so much for that but, having had a quick look at it, it looks like it's more tailored to kids from the local area and my son's visiting me during the holidays from Dorset. I could be mistaken however. I'll pursue this further during the week, I won't have him again until half term in the first week of June so I've got a few weeks to have a look and see what options are available. Thanks again.

  • Hi, search your local council website for the section titled "Local Offer", that should provide you with information on groups and clubs for children and young people with ASD. Hope you find what you're looking for.
