Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone knows any good ear defenders or sensory toys...
My 14 y.o daughter struggles with loud noises and we went out to listen to a band (which she loved) but it was too loud so spent the time in the playground where it was quieter and did not take her hands off her ears.
Any suggestions are appreciated
Thanks x
Yes, I will get a pair in case anyone needs them. Thanks
yes mine ( really good sound defenders ) took a phased usage before I could wear them for long periods. ( 10mins, 30 mins , 1 hour several times 3 hours several times until 6-8 hours max )
I've found standard 'headphones' ear defenders a bit tight - 'brain squeezing' and the hollow bit where my ears are supposed to go are a bit small so they get squashed too. That's why I use the foam things - very odd to start with but forgettable eventually.
These aren't like apples ear buds or the foam ones which are irritating. I might buy a pair and see how she takes to them. Worst case: keep them in the kitchen for when the fire alarm goes off or if you end up at a festival!
Honestly I hate things in my ears & eye masks - feeling constrained in any way. But I hate harsh noises & bright light more...
Thank you, they seem really good but my daughter won't put things in her ears.
I swear by these, I have several pairs of the blue ones (they're slightly smaller than the clear) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Etymotic-Research-Fidelity-Earplugs-Polybag-Blue-Tip-Clear-Stem/dp/B00G0PPTAK/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=etymotic&qid=1618783996&sr=8-8
I work in music tech, and these have been my go-to for 10 years. They come with a case and I clean them every so often with a little witch hazel or soap.
Thank you. Those sound like a great pair.
Thank you. I will see what our Hardware store does.
Hello, I wear standard ear defenders that I brought from a local hardware shop and find they work fine to shut out the worse of loud noise. They have padding and are comfortable. I hope you can find a similar pair that will work for your daughter.
I'm constantly wearing over-the-ear noise-canceling headphones. They can be turned on or off and are wired or wireless. When I was a kid, I would stick crayons in my ears when I had to vacuum!
Thank you, we do have some but she won't wear them.
We all use the cheapo 3M orange ones in a multipack from Screwfix when we go to gigs..
