Feeling Overwhelmed

Hello all, my name is Laura and I am a mom of 3. My 10 year old son was diagnosed around 8 weeks ago with Autism Spectrum Disorder, he also has a rare genetic disorder which affects his joints. I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information available and I don’t know where to begin with looking for access to appropriate advice and support, so anything would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi, take a look on your local council website, The Local Offer tab will take you to information regarding all services available to you and your family. Including ASD friendly entertainment, services which provide support, courses to help you....

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi and welcome,

I sympathise with you as it can be overwhelming at first. One thing to note is that understanding ASD will not happen overnight. It is a process of gaining understanding. Understanding your child first and foremost, his behaviors, what they mean, what you can do to help or manage these tailored to what works for your son and you.

Feel free to ask specific questions regarding your own circumstances for feedback from other users.
