Eating - anxiety, reflux and nausea

Hi - I am a newbie here.

My 16yo daughter is currently awaiting autism assessment with CAMHS - goodness knows how long that's going to take.   She has always had sensory difficulties with food and a limited diet.  Quite recently she has been having difficulties with nausea and reflux symptoms which are making it even more difficult for her to eat. They appear to be exacerbated - if not started - by anxiety. She also describes that she almost always feels hungry, even if she has just eaten.  Is that a thing?

It's really starting to get to her - she doesn't know why she feels like it and wishes it would stop.  I don't know what is the best way to help her.

If anyone has experience of this and what helped I'd really appreciate ideas.

Thank you

  • Hello

My daughter has had issues with this too. A one point she had some medication from the doctor which helped neutralise the acid in her stomach so that she was able to eat without feeling so sick. This issue is definitely related to her overwhelming anxiety. However even when she is less anxious she still has difficulty knowing when she is full or how much she should be eating. Again I think this is related to her anxiety and her not being able to understand the messages that her body is giving her.

Now when she feels nauseous she has ginger tea and nibbles on ginger biscuits, she also uses Rennie's as suggested by the pharmacist. These have helped a little.

    Good luck with the assessment.

    Best wishes
