12 year old daughter

Hello, my 12 year old daughter started high school in September and started ok.Then she had some issue with a boy in class making comments about her teeth and mouth which she really got upset about. She carried on in the same class and then COVID gave the break over Christmas. She has now gone back to school for 2 weeks and has moved class to be with her friend. Everyday I pick her up from school and she has drawn all over her hands. She cries and says how much she hates school and she is scared of everything. I’m going to make a gp appt as she hasn’t been diagnosed but I’ve noticed so much more since she started high school. I feel so sad for her as she keeps saying she wishes she didn’t exist anymore as her brain is feeling bad. She then at night can’t sleep without one of us there and she says she can’t disassociate things from school, she then feels bad, hits her leg and has to go out of her room . Has anyone else experienced this and how can I help. I don’t think she’ll be happy going back to school and just don’t know what I should do.

  • Hi, my 14 y.o daughter experienced some similar issues. We didn't realise she was until the spectrum until she started secondary school. Secondary school is a massive change from Primary and it is very daunting and obviously Covid isn't helping anyone. My daughter kept being threatened and picked on by a boy and then she was frightened to go to school to the point where I had to get a teacher to come to the car and encourage her. (Some days she would make up excuses to go to school and would always be in tears). If she's drawing on her hands, she could be bored and fed-up (my daughter does this). I can relate a bit when you say your daughter doesn't want to be here. Same thing happened and she was unable to sleep. She is also at the age when puberty is happening.

All I did was letting her teachers know about what is happening and making sure my daughter knows I'm here to talk whenever. Her sleep is still bad so I have bought some melatonin from our local Pharmacy which really sleeps. There are also some calming remedies (we use Rescue Remedies) to help with anxiety. This is only from my experience so it might not work, sorry if it doesn't. I wish you all the luck x
