Hi and I just need to know I'm not alone

Hello all, this is my first post. I have a daughter, step son and as of today a Husband with ASD  I have two other. Children with learning difficulties and another step son with learnt behaviours. Everything has just hit me today with my husband's diagnosis and I feel completely alone. I guess I'm just reaching out to confirm I'm not alone

  • You're not alone - you're just in a complicated family - like almost all of us.  Smiley

May I ask what prompted your husband's diagnosis?

  • So fairly recently within the last year we got married after being together for five years. About a month after we got married our relationship changed. Not just a little but massively like the person I married was an imposter. We sought out marriage counselling and the therapist put it to us that I was a possibility. It has been suggested that I was one of his obsessions and marriage made him feel secure and comfortable and that new obsession was found in the history of the Vikings and not me.

  • Being married is a partnership and there's nothing more fun than doing things together - it may sound stupid, but why not jump in the Viking hole with him?

Aspies tend to have a long list of stuff we want to try in our lives so everything new is an adventure - we use these things to escape the annoyance and stress of the regular world.

Have you heard of TORM?   https://www.reenactorsmarket.co.uk/  It's the historical re-enactors market - if you show interest in his hobbies, I'd bet he would reevaluate you as something much more interesting.

There's no need to grow up - stay young, try things and enjoy life.
