transistion to high school

Hi, my son who has aspergers is going up to High school in September, the school has being very good, I would like the transistion obviously to be successful, but am worried about the move up, does anybody have any advice on how we can make this less stressful for my son and any techniques that anybody that have used that have worked, we are going for extra visits and my son is going to go round the school takings pictures so he can have a map of the school, but any other help would be good.

  • my son also has aspergers and is going to high school in september itoo have been reallly worried,but wev have since visited several times, and found the school has an asd unit and a learning resource support base with each child having an lsa with them throughout the school day,taking them to each lesson to breaks,lunch even collecting them from the school door and the same at home time,you could see if these facilities are available at his new school if not find one that does.its reassuring to know your child is not left unattended or alone at such a big place.i have also arranged for my son to leave classses earlier and to arrive and leave school at a different time,he willleave 10mins earlier each day to avoid the hoards of kids which will terrify him.you could see if this is also possible.i was previously really anxious about the transition but since all this has been organised i am much happier so is my son who is now quite looking forward to going there! HOPE THIS HELPS A BIT. 

  • I would have loved to have went to a R&D(Research and Development) school.. theory, experiment and functional design outcomes. I don't think such a school exists, why not ? because school is a holding pend containment zone, nothing to do with learning.

  • I am against secondary school education for children with Autism, most of my problems happened at secondary school, the environment is not right, it is hard enough too adapt, without the unnecessary stategeared FLOODING, it is not therapeutic, because these state schools are full of socialpsychopath predators, the children of demon animals we call falsely call human beings.

    If you read a lot of the life stories of others on the forum, this is reflective, secondary school suffering.

    What do others think ? IS Secondary School bad medicine for the majority of Autism children.
