I have supported children with autism in a mainstream primary school for many years but am struggling to help the child I have recently been working with. The child screams when she doesn't get what she wants and the teacher has told me that if I just leave her, she will eventually stop. The screaming goes on for a long time and I want to do something to help but she just screams for what she wants and the strategies I have previously used do not work. Obviously I don't want to just give her what she wants every time she screams. Can anyone give me any ideas I could try? She is a lovely little girl, I'd really love to help her. She is 6 years old.
