my 7 years old has been diagnosed with autism last week he has soiling problem too i am just trying to get my head around it all

Hi, I been fighting for my son since he was 2 he is now 7 and finally got his diagnosis last week. He is struggling with his emotions he is really frustrated and anxious boy who doestnt seems happy unless he is in his own world of pokemon minecraft fortnight and he needs to know everything thats happening by the minute he loves his maths and anything to do with numbers. He doesnt understand others emotions and struggles to understand that not every one likes what he likes and if they dont like or be prepared to be in his world and live his world he just blanks them out. He has soiling problems too he is having 3-5 accidents even when he is asleep he then lies about it and stays in it for hours until he is ready to be change as a mum i want my boy to be happy but it feels like thats impossible. please help me to understand what my boy is going through and how to help him. what will be the best think what i should put in place and how to put smile on his face.

  • re: the soiling accidents... that was a nightmare when i was growing up. i did not have a good diet, was addicted to sugar, just had nightmarish soiling issues... i'd hope your son has a good diet, that you're able to find and experiment with foods that are both good for him and help keep him regular. btw, there's something called interospection that might play into this - it's the inability to tell what's going on in your body.

you can try psyllium. i take some every day, a tablespoon.  it's totally natural....

i think if you work with any other issues he has, his ability to deal with bowel movements, and other internal processes of him, would improve. his system will be quieter, more calm, able to detect what's going on inside him hopefully easier.

there are also the unpleasant smells and surfaces and lights and amplified sounds of the bathroom. a friend's mom (idk if any of her kids had soiling issues) made potty time nice and pleasant. in japan, they play the sound of running water in bathrooms.

i'm glad he likes his maths!

  • Hi thank you for your reply yeah he has got good diet meat bread fruit wedge i am making sure of that and he drinks plenty as well he is going for biopsy to find out if his bowel is working properly.

he went to school yesterday and 9:45 i had a call from school to come and change him. When i got there the teacher told me that he said he change himself but the smell was still there when i took him to the bathroom he didnt even try to change himself. and thats day to day battle he doesnt like seeing it or touching it but he can sit in it for hours if i let him. he again had a soiling accident while he was a sleep i am up every 2 hours to checking him and changing him. Its so so hard. and thats the problem with soiling never mind the rest of it. Its so hard to understand it all. and process it.
