Hi,
We are just about to begin the application process for our twelve year old Aspie boy, can anyone give me any suggestions on how to go about it and what to look out for?

Hi Annie
I'm not sure if you mean you're at the beginning of asking for an assessment or if you've started the statementing process.
Here's some information from the website about both:
Information about statutory assessment:
http://www.autism.org.uk/living-with-autism/education/primary-and-secondary-school/extra-help-for-your-child-in-school/extra-help-in-school-england-and-wales/statutory-assessment-england-wales.aspx
Info about statementing:
http://www.autism.org.uk/en-gb/living-with-autism/education/primary-and-secondary-school/extra-help-for-your-child-in-school/extra-help-in-school-england-and-wales/statements-of-special-educational-needs-england-wales.aspx
That is all relevant to England and Wales, so if you're in Scotland let us know.
You might also want to try the Education Rights Service. There's more information about that here:
www.autism.org.uk/educationrights
They'll be able to advise you about your particular situation if you'd like some extra information.
I hope that's helpful.
Good luck.
