I'm new to the NAS. My son is High Functioning Autistic with serious anxiety and social limitations. He is soon to turn 18 and I have a few questions I could use some help with, or perhaps someone could direct me to a better place to get details? I work full time and my husband cares for our son when he isn't attending a vocational course at 6th form college. Thanks so much for any help you can offer.
1) What financial Support is available when he turns18? Is Disability Living Allowance easy to access? Is there any funding available to help facilitate him attempting to live independently?
2) Is it possible for us (or my husband) to claim carer's allowance? If our son remains in education would that exclude us from claiming this help?
3) In practice how does the transfer from CAMHS to Adult services actually work/become triggered? Would our son be issued a social worker or case worker? How does the system continue to monitor his ongoing needs?
