I am new here. My 13 year old son is in the process of being diagnosed most probably with Apergers or high functioning Autism, he is also being treated for depression and anxiety and attends a special school for children not well enough for mainstream.
He is having counselling at camhs but that is for his mental health and not ASD specific. What we really want for him is some kind of teaching/help/mentoring to help him understand and deal with his ASD. He is very bothered about it and is struggling to come to terms with what might be different about him. He is really worried about the future and getting a job, he is also worried about getting behind as he has effectively missed his first year of secondary education - going from a SATS level 5 in everything at the end of year 6 to scraping a 3 at the end of year 7.
Does anyone know of any kind of specialist ASD help we might be able to get - we are happy to pay for the right thing if necessary - we just feel he needs help NOW and not in another 6 months when they may or may not have a proper diagnosis for us!
