Behaviour rubbing off onto younger sibling.

I have a 6yo with Aspergers and if she disagrees with something we are asking of her (a regular daily occurence) she goes flouncing off in a temper and starts throwing herself on the sofa and wailing at the injustice of it all or runs off into another room slamming the door behind her.

Whilst this is part and parcel of our every day life for us, what's worrying is our 2yo, who is a totally different kettle of fish to her elder sister, has started copying this behaviour.  We have the usual terrible 2's from her but her behaviour during those tantrums is definitely being influenced by her elder sisters "style".

I guess this is something we will just have to live with but it does beg the question of what other, future behaviour she likely to start displaying as a result of her elder sibling's condition-related behaviour?

Anyone with any tips on this sort of thing?  Or is it just yet another of those facts of life that a family unit such as ours has to deal with.

  • Hi I am new on here but read your post and that is exactly our worry at the moment, my 3yr old is currently under assesment stages for asd and her behaviour gets terribly out of control at times, we try to take my 1yr old away from the room when she goes into one of her tantrums but unfortunately that cant always happen and i do see her picking up certain traits through watching her elder sibling :(

i dont have any suggestions but just thought id reply:) x
