dentist

hi everyone - my son, a young adult, has his dental appointment soon.   He's always co-operative at the dentists.  He's had a very small filling in the past without the need for an injection.  No problems.   His teeth are really gd.   This time he needs a filling.  The dental practice is v experienced in various sedation techniques. They have assessed + are saying he shd have "happy air" (a relaxing sedative gas administered by a clear plastic nose mask) + also a cannula for intravenous sedation.  He won't be properly asleep.  Question :  has anyone, on the spectrum or not, experienced this sort of sedation.  How did it affect you?  He is needle averse(!) so the happy air needs to affect him enough so he doesn't have a bad reaction to the needle.  Any comments wd be helpful.
