Started making noises

Hi, My son is 10 years old and was diagnosed a couple of year with autism. Hes in main stream school and manages ok generally. He has a few friends at school but doesn't really meet up much outside of school. During lockdown he's been really good but in the last couple of months hes started making a hmm hmm hmm noise after hes says a sentence or before he starts talking  as well. Sometimes he does it non stop............We think its just a habit he currently has but its almost impossible to ignore as they tell you to........he doesn't seem bothered by it but the school have mentioned it to us.

Has anyone had any expience of this or similar?

Any and all help apprecited

  • Yes. My 10 year old son has had many varied verbal tics. Some are easier to ignore than others. It is like a stim in that it provides sensory feedback and therefore feels good. If we point them out to him he gets v angry. They last sometimes a few weeks and sometimes a few months and are always replaced by a new and different one. Our tolerance level for them fluctuates. Its can be difficult, especially when his latest tic was a cough an we had to go on a plane !
